landscape, history and culture into peoples life for thousands of years until nowadays. today, as a predominant city in yangtze river delta, urban centers development of hangzhou has been gradually for its existing high end residential area and planned urban park. the development of prime xintiandi hanghzou is not only for the city itself but it is the city fathers vision to “make the people rich by establishing businesses and make the province powerful by innovation”. it is a vision for protecting both the industrial civilization and sustainable development; it is a vision for the integration of a dynamic city fabric, innovation and protection; it is a vi- sion for preservation-reuse-recreation; it is a vision for creating a landmark for hangzhou new town of international zhejiang province, is renowned for its excellent natural environments. it is also one of the major tourist destinations in china due to its long history. for long, hangzhou is known as a “city of gardens”. many beautiful gardens can be seen in the xihu lake park. located in the south of hangzhou, the xihu lake is one most the most popular attractions in hangzhou. through the xihu lake has brought about the fame of urban cul- ture and beautiful sceneries to hangzhou, the city is feeling pressures under overall development. how to maintain balance between the natural envi- ronment and human life and between this history and modernity is a great challenge to the city.,hangzhou creation xintiandi is located at the lower part in the north of hangzhou. the site neighbors shiyang road on the north, dongxin east road on the west, changdawu road on the south, and hang-xuan railway and hang-ning express railway on the east. on the one hand, it site covers a land of 50 hectares, as a rare site which is suitable for comprehensive devel- opment in hangzhou. on the other hand, the site is comparatively far from arterial roads and subway stations, so the reacheability is poor. consider- ing the coexistence of challenges and opportunities, the design is primarily intended to make use of advantages, avoid shortcomings, and maximize the attractiveness and effects of creation
