You can see even more with a telescope (望远镜). And you might also see many larger stars and some really “red or blue” ones. The bigger the telescopes are, the more objects and details you will see in the sky.But scientists believe there are some things, socalled black holes, in the sky that we will never see, even with the biggest telescope on the clearest night. Theyre the mysterious dead stars. It is hard to imagine that stars die. After all, our Sun is a star. Year after year we see it up in the sky, burning brightly, giving us heat and light, which certainly doesnt seem to be getting old or weak. But stars do burn out and die after billions of years. As a stars gases burn, they give off light and heat. But when the gas runs out, the star stops burning and begins to die. As the star cools, the outer layers of the star pull in toward the center. The star was crushed (挤压) into a smaller and smaller ball. If the star was very small,it ends up as a cold, dark ball called a black dwarf (矮星)Imagine if the Earth was crushed until it was the size of a small ball. Thats how tightly this dead star,a black hole, is packed. Its gravity attracts in everything even light, which can never come back to your eyes. Thats why you see nothing but blackness. So the next time you stare up at the night sky, remember: theres more in the sky than meets the eye! In the silent darkness are black holes the great mystery of space.1The passage mainly tells us something about _.A. the night sky B. the telescopeC. the black holes D. the gravity答案与解析C文章开篇描述夜空中有点点的繁星,然后指出用望远镜会看到更多的星星,但还是有一些看不见的“黑洞”,借此引出主题。然后仔细分析黑洞的实质、形成过程,从而逐渐揭开其神秘的面纱。所以文章的主题是“黑洞”,而其他事物都是铺垫,是次要的。2We can learn from the passage that _.A. on the clearest night,we can find a black hole in the skyB. we can find black holes with the help of the telescopeC. we can find the black holes are red or blue in colorD. nobody, including scientists, can see the black holes答案与解析D文章在对黑洞的描述中第二段指出“But scientists believe there are some things, socalled black holes, in the sky that we will never see, even with the biggest telescope on the clearest night.”以及第五段“. even light, which can never come back to your eyes.Thats why you see nothing but blackness.”由此判断,黑洞是不能被任何人看见的,包括科学家。3We can see that the black holes are actually _.A. the burning sun B. the crushed earthC. some dead stars D. the empty space答案与解析C文章第二段对黑洞做了解释和定义: Theyre the mysterious dead stars和前文的socalled black holes对应。4Why does a star die according to the passage?A. It is burnt by the suns light.B. It is attracted by the earths gravity.C. It runs out of light and heat while burning.D. It is crushed by other bigger stars.答案与解析C文章倒数第三段中提出: “As a stars gases burn, they give off light and heat. But when the gas runs out, the star stops burning and begins to die.”由此推断,星星死亡的原因是自身燃烧,散尽了光和热。5We can not see the black holes because _.A. we have no good telescopeB. there are no black holes at allC. they are too small and weakD. they are too tightly packed答案与解析D文章讲到由于气体燃烧殆尽,星体变小紧缩,由此产生很大的引力,吸收了一切的光,所以看不见他们,由此推断答案为D项。BHello! My name is Lisa, and I am a lioness. I live on the open grasslands of Africa with my family. Lions living in a group are called a pride. My father is strong and powerful. He and his cousin are the leaders of our pride. The other members are my mother, her sisters, and their children. The area where a pride lives is big! We roar (咆哮) to tell each other where we are and to warn strangers to stay away.Meet my new baby brother. His name is Leon. See the spots on his fur? We lions are born spotted or striped (有条纹的). As we grow older, the spots gradually disappear.Lionesses usually spend their entire lives with their birth pride, but Leon will leave when he is about three years old. Hell run around with a male (雄性的) friend or relative for a few years until they take over a pride of their own.But for now, we have lots of fun together. We often play and fight for hours, which can help us practice skills that we will need for hunting. We lions keep ourselves very clean. Just like a house cat, I clean my fur (毛) with my tongue. We clean for each other, too, to show were friends.Lions like to sleep for most of the day. We hunt in the cool evening. Female (雌性的) lions hunt more often than male lions. We work together as a team. At the right moment, we attack and kill our prey. Then we share it. Male lions usually eat first. Females eat next. Baby lions are the last to eat. The smallest one gets the least food.Since we are full, its time to go to find a nice place for a sleep. Bye!6.Lisa in this passage is the name of _.A. a girl B. a male lionC. a female lion D. a pride答案与解析C根据第一段的“My name is Lisa, and I am a lioness.”可知,Lisa是一只雌性狮子,所以选择C项。7Acco
