PaulCezannewasborninAix-en-Provence,France,onJan19,1839.Hisfather

wasasuccessfulbanker.CezannereceivedaneducationattheCollegeBourbonand

studieddrawingattheAixMuseum.Afterstudyingforashorttimeatlawschooland

workinginhisfather'sbank,hewenttoParistostudypainting.Thenheoftenreturned

toAix.Heworkedmanysummerspaintingthescenerynearhisfather'shomeawayfrom

thecenterofthecity.

Cezannetookpartinthefirstexhibitionofimpressionistpaintingsin1874,thoughhe

laterbrokewiththeimpressionists.Hewasmoreconcernedwithstructureandcolorthan

withtheeffectsproducedbylight.

NotuntilCezannewasabout60yearsolddidgalleriesandmuseumsbegintolook

forhisworks.Evenwithhisnew-foundsuccesshestillremainedunsociable.However,

hecontinuedtopaintuntilaweekbeforehisdeathonOct22,1906.

Most20th-centurypainterswereinfluencedbyCezanne.Heinventedawayof

modelingthree-dimensional(三维的)formsbypaintinginsmallareasofcolor.He

paintedfromnaturebutoftenchangedashapeoritscolortoexpressitsspecialeffect.

告)thefirstwarongraffiti.Bythe1980sitbecamemuchhardertowriteonsubway

trainswithoutbeingcaughtandinsteadmanyofthegraffitiartistsbeganusingroofsof

buildings.
