TheytooktheideatoPresidentRooseveltwhothoughtitwasaverygoodone.Heimmediately

toldthegovernmentprintertousethesimplifiedspellingonallgovernmentletters.

Butpeopledonotlikechange-evenchangethatmakeslifeeasier-andmanypeopledisliked

thenew,simplerspelling.TheBritish-whoprobablythoughttheyownedtheEnglishlanguage

-wereparticularlyangry.

Moreimportantly,whenAmericanpoliticiansdiscussedtheplan,theydidnotlikeit.Because
