Afterthemusicstartedplaying,participantsperformedvarioustasksthattestedtheircreativethinking.Participantswhocameupwiththemostoriginalandusefulsolutionstoataskscoredhigherindivergent(发散的)creativity,whileparticipantswhocameupwiththesinglebestpossiblesolutiontoataskscoredhigherinconvergent(聚合的)creativity.
Theresearchersfoundthatlisteningtohappymusic,whichtheydefineasclassicalmusicthatispositiveandhighinencouragement,promotesmoredifferentcreativethinkingparedtosilence.Itisshownthatthechangesinvolvedinthehappymusicsituationmayimproveflexibilityinthinking.Asaresult,additionalsolutionsmightbeconsideredbytheparticipants,whichmaynothaveoccurredtothemreadilyiftheywereperformingthetaskinsilence.
