1ForewordChineseclothinghasalong-termhistory.FortheancientChinese,thepurposeofclotheswasnotjustforprotectingandcoveringthebody,butforshowingprofoundmeaningswhichprevailedinsociety.Thus,observingthedevelopmentofclothesgivesusachancetounderstandtheirsociety,economy,culture,andeventheirmentality.2先秦Pre-QinDuringtheShangandZhouDynasties,peopleworeasuitofclothes,whichconsistedofalongtoppartwithabeltaroundthewaistandalowerpart.Ithadshortsleeveswithahemthatdangledtotheknees.Also,thehemsoftheneckandsleeveswouldbebeautifullyembroidered.3

Thelongtoppartwasreplacedwithashortform.Thepeoplebegantoweartrousersandboots,whichmadeiteasiertomoveincombat.Thisnewtypeofclothingwaspopularatthattime.4漢朝HanDynastyPeopleintheWesternHanDynastyusedfourseasonsandsolartermstodeterminethecolorsoftheirclothing.Forinstance,whenspringcame,theydressedinblue.WomenintheHanDynastydressedthemselvesinanoutfitthatconsistedofablouseandaskirt.5
