comparedwith95per100foreignvehicles.The36-pointgapwasthe
narrowestinthestudy’sseven-yearhistory.WhenChinaovertooktheUS
astheworld’slargestcarmakerinthe2009,thegapbetweendomestic
andforeigncarswas145points.“It’sevidencetotheimprovements
thatdomesticbrandshavebeenmaking,”saidGeoffBroderick,headof
J.D.Power’soperations.“By2018thedomesticandtheglobalbrands
willbeequalintermsofquality.”
Despitethesteadyimprovementinquality,localvehiclemakers
havebeenperformingpoorlythisyear.AccordingtotheChina
AssociationofAutomobileManufacturers,domesticbrand’sshareofthe
marketforcars—notincludingSUVs—hasfallenfromabout25percentto
20percent.

microorganismscouldbeidentified,wecouldputthemtoworkeatingthe
plasticmuchfasterthanundernormalconditions.
Withthisgoalinmind,hegroundedplasticbagsintoapowder
andconcocted(调制)asolutionofhouseholdchemicals,yeast(酵母)and
tapwatertoencouragemicrobesgrowth.Thenheaddedtheplasticpowder
andletthemicrobesworktheirmagicfor3months.Finally,hetested
theresultingbacterialcultureonplasticbags,exposingoneplastic
sampletodeadbacteriaasacontrol.Sureenough,theplasticexposed(暴
露)tothelivebacteriawas17%lighterthanthecontrolaftersixweeks.
