2、. This is a critical comprehension skill that can significantly impact recall ability. While reading, mark out the important facts and ideas in the passage with a pen, pencil or highlighter pen. It helps you a great deal to reread, recall, and remember what you read.How to underline effectively?nTry

3、 to underline important portions of the topic sentence and major supporting detailsnUse a system for underlining. For example, you may use single underlining for important details and double underlining for the main idea. nIf there are any questions that need answering, use them to guide you in your

4、 underlining. (“Questions” could also include your predicting.) n George Washington Carver is a famous American because he invented so many new things. He developed new ways to grow more crops on an acre of land. Many people planted the same crop on the same land year after year. Carver found that r

5、otating crops helped the land to stay fertile. He started a school to teach farmers who couldnt read how to grow crops using these new methods. Farmers would visit his school and Carver would show them how to grow more and better crops.n Peanut butter is also one of Carvers inventions. He produced o

You are only required to select the important details and summarize them as the answer. What is summarizing?A summary i

17、s a shorter version of a longer piece of writing. To summarize means to say the same thing in fewer words. The goal of writing a summary of an article, a single chapter or a whole book is to offer as accurately as possible the full sense of the original, but in a more condensed form. A summary resta

18、tes the authors main point, purpose, intent and supporting details in your own words. Writing a summary forces you to go beyond separate facts and ideas and consider what they mean as a whole. In addition to this, the knowledge you gained by summarizing makes it possible for you to analyze and criti

21、ur summary through the acronym TMD. This stands for topic, or what the passage is about; the main idea, or why the subject is important; and the details that support the main idea. The latter should answer the who, where and when. (the 5 Wh-questions)Include any definitions of key terms or important

22、 new principles, theories or procedures that are introduced. Indicate the authors attitude and approach. (writing style, tone, attitude, organization patterns, etc.)Keep your summary objective and factual. Summary is a brief report that reflects the writers ideas, not your evaluation of them.Decide

23、your purpose to write the summary for your future record.Consider using a computer to state and record your summaries.How to summarize?As you review your work, make sure that your summary is:nComprehensive: You have included in your summary all of the authors major ideas, assertions and findingsnAcc
