3、s career.Throughout the 1920s,Andersonpublished several short story collections,novels, memoirs, booksofessays, andabookof poetry. Though his bookssoldreasonably well,DarkLaughter (1925),a novelinspired byAndersons timeinNewOrleans during the1920s, wastheonlybestseller ofhiscareer.AuthorHe maybe mos

4、tremembered for his influential effecton thenextgeneration of youngwriters, as he inspired WilliamFaulkner, ErnestHemingway, JohnSteinbeck,and ThomasWolfe.He helpedgainpublication forFaulkner and Hemingway.Author舍伍德安德森,美国作家。生于俄亥俄州卡姆登。当过报童、工人等。其作品多以小城镇为背景,描写小市民的惶惑情绪,带有自然主义和神秘主义色彩。安德森本人出生在俄亥俄州的一个小镇上。迫

5、于生计,少年安德森打过各种零工。20岁的时候,安德森独自前往芝加哥谋生。后来,安德森曾经在大学学习一年,因为不适应校园生活而转去芝加哥做广告撰写员。后来,安德森与一富家女结婚,当上了一家邮购商行的经理。36岁时,安德森已经是一位出色的商人。但是,他不安于现状,断然决定弃商从文。1916年,安德森发表了带有浓重自传体风格的小说饶舌的麦克佛逊的儿子(WindyMcPhersons Son),从此一发而不可收拾。1919年俄亥俄州的温斯堡(Winesburg,Ohio)的发表使安德森获得极大的成功,奠定了他在美国文学史上的地位。安德森其它的主要著作还有:1917年的前进的人们(Marching Me
