1、.Philosophy StudyPHI-10 and PHI-11This research investigates the success of PHI-10 and PHI-11 students in online courses versus traditional courses. In order to answer the research questions, valid grades A valid grade is a grade of A, B, C, D, F, CR, NC, I, or W for the Fall and Spring semesters be
2、tween Fall 2003 and Spring 2007 were used in this investigation.Is there a difference in success rates by delivery method?For PHI-10, 4,765 students received a valid grade. Of these, 2,669 (62.3%) were successful. The success by delivery method XF01 designates delivery method of the course. Hybrid d
3、elivery method is not designated in the data. by which a student took the class was investigated. The courses were divided into three groups: traditional (i.e., face-to-face), video, or internet delivery. There was a difference in success rates by the way the course was delivered. Students who took
4、the course via traditional delivery were more successful than students who took the course via internet delivery, while students who took the course via internet delivery were more successful than students who took the course via video delivery (F=25.69, p<.01). The differences in success by deli
5、very methods are summarized in Table 1. 6、 which 2,703 (67.6%) were successful. PHI-11 was offered in two delivery methods, traditional and internet. There was a difference in success rates by the way the course was delivered. Students who took the course via traditional delivery were more successful than students who took the course via in

Students who took the course at the Norco campus were more successful than students who took the course at the other two campuses. Students at the Moreno Valley Campus were more successful than students who took th

10、to PHI-11, there was no difference in success among Moreno Valley and Norco students. Moreno Valley and Norco students were more successful than students who took the courses at the Riverside Campus (F = 42.37, p<.01). The differences in success by campus are summarized in Table 4. 13、 PHI-11. PHI-11 is only offered in both delivery methods at the Riverside Campus. 14、-10 was offered in all three methods only at the Riverside campus, the differences for this course will be investigated separately for the Riverside campus only. In addition, the course was only offered via the traditional and internet methods of delivery at the Norco campus, so success will be inve
15、stigated separately for that campus as well. For PHI-11, the Riverside campus was the only campus to offer the course in more than one delivery method so success in the course by delivery method will be investigated separately for that campus.In PHI-10 at the Riverside Campus, there was a significan
16、t difference in success for students by method of delivery (F = 18.98, p <.01). Students who took the course via traditional delivery were more successful than students who took the course via internet delivery, while there was no difference between the success of those students who took the cour
17、se via internet or video delivery.
