4、语课堂上的学习兴趣,创造良好的课堂气氛,激发他们英语学习的热情和动机。an analysis on stimulating students learning motivation in english abstract: the research of english teaching methods has always been an important topic among scholars and teachers. learning motivation is the power to lead the learner to learn with a positive way.

5、learning motivation shows ones reason for learning, why he will learn hard and how much efforts he will put on for learning. this paper will focus on exploring ways of arousing primary school students motivation in english learning from five aspects: improving classroom teaching, conducting the stud

6、ents to retell texts and to act as roles, establishing harmonious teacher-student relationship, developing various and interesting activities and provide students many opportunities to experience success. these will make the classroom atmosphere active and stimulate the students enthusiasm and motiv

7、ation in english learning.key words: motivation; english learning; students; stimulate1. introduction motivation in english learning is a major concern with teachers and researchers. however, in china, motivation has been ignored in some degree. so far as we learned, the goal of english education do

8、es not require students to grasp a large number of linguistic knowledge, rather than stimulating their learning interest and motivation. therefore, the teaching content should be close to students lives to stimulate the students enthusiasm. teachers should create a harmonious relationship between te

9、acher and students, provide opportunities for students to experience success in class, establish a relaxed and happy learning environment, use flexible teaching methods to cultivate students learning motivations. once students motivations have been inspired, their strong desires of participation sho

10、uld be promoted. then they will automatically be able to dig into the core of language. 2. definition of motivationmotivation is in psychological terms which cause behavior. in other words, motivation is the reason or reasons behind a certain action. motivation can be based upon basic needs. if we a

11、re hungry then we seek out something to eat. hunger is the motivating factor. motivation can also be based on higher desire. once you finish a meal, you may want a piece of cake. you did not need the cake, but you were motivated to get it because it is your favorite kind of cake. motivation can also

12、 be rooted in higher concept. intrinsic motivation is the motivation to act for the sake of the activity alone. for example, people have intrinsic motivation to write poetry if they do it simply because they enjoy it. extrinsic motivation, on the other hand, is the motivation to act for external rew

13、ards. for example, people have extrinsic motivation to write if they do so in hopes of getting published, being famous, or making money. motivation may be constructed as a state of cognitive and emotional arousal which leads to a conscious decision to act and gives rise to a period of sustained inte

14、llectual or physical effort in order to attain a previously set goal. 3. the importance of arousing students motivationmotivation is very important for english learning. because motivation is not only the desire for learning english, but also the cause which pushes students to study hard in english

15、learning with great passion. it is just like the engine of a car which can move students from boredom to interest. it is an inner power to drive and preserve students in english learning. students who have strong learning motivation take a correct and positive attitude towards study and make great e

16、fforts to master english with clear goal、desire and consequently gain better grade than those who havent acquired motivation and those students usually regard english learning as a heavy and boring burden. it is true that motivation is such a basic factor in language learning that no teacher could a

17、void being concerned with students motivation. students goals influence their motivation and effort in english learning. with learning goal, students study purposefully and throw great effort into english learning. they are concerned about mastering of language and accomplishing tasks and not worrie

18、d about failure or comparison to others. it is effective to help students setting realistic and appropriate goals in motivating them in learning.4. methods of arousing students motivation4.1 improving classroom teachingthe primary means for students to acquire knowledge is in class. and classroom te

19、aching is the key process for education. through the class, the teacher carries on the education. consequently, it is viral to renew the classroom teaching. the first step of this improvement is to achieve students learning motivation and their interest of learning.4.1.1 the student-centered teachin

20、g methodcompared with traditional teaching method, the student-centered role in modern learning atmosphere succeeds in that it achieved students interest of learning. in this modern learning atmosphere, students are the central part. they explore and take in knowledge actively. this teaching model p

21、ointed out that teacher should attract students attention and know their interest. teaching method and teaching material must match to students cognitive need; teachers should help them build up their confidence and must fulfill their satisfaction. the purpose of student-centered teaching method is

22、students activity, and the pattern is based on students interest of learning and what knowledge they really want to acquire. if we want to improve students language abilities, the student-centered teaching style is the best way. because it can make students learn english willingly. students intense

23、emotion with the leading of interest can be changed into a strong learning motivation to cause the learning succeed.4.1.2 the application of multi-media multi-media make the learning process full of fun, which has perfect video and audio. the picture and its accompanying essay are both excellent. it

24、 has changed the traditional teacher-centered teaching method, and aroused students interest in learning english. the computer and multi-media technology have recently been brought to the public notice all over the world. in classroom, sometimes students may feel shame to answer questions, and are n

25、ot willing to answer. but if we use multi-media technology, students can talk to teachers without shyness. the web concludes many resources that are a stage to encourage students to communicate with foreign people, which is a way to learn english well. we can use computer broadcast listening materia

26、l because there are thousands and millions funny picture or cartoon on the web. when teachers do their teaching plan, they can use multi-media technology. to find some interesting listening materials and combine them with listening material in the book and show them to the students is obvious to ach

27、ieve students interest in learning english, which can solve the difficulties in listening and validly improve students listening level. teachers can ask students to write autobiography and then put it on the web. the exercise is very motivating to the students, because they are making a product that

28、 is real and can be shared like many other real things on the web. when it is just a paper for teacher they think of it as just another assignment. when they put it on the web, they think of it as something real. that can arouse their interest in learning english. and teacher can give them some comm

29、ent to encourage them keep doing so.4.1.3 developing linguistic sense.teachers should try to let the students do more listening and reading. for instance, the teacher can ask the students to listen to the radio, watch tv and read the book they are interest in. in addition, students should do more re

30、citation. also, students should speak english as much as they can, never worry about making mistake. if the students have developed good linguistic sense, they will feel it is much easier and interesting for them to understand the texts.4.2 conducting retelling and acting with the purpose of fosteri

31、ng students english communicative competence, the feedback from students by motivation learning is very important. so “retelling”and “acting” are two best ways to check the students learning. through retelling the texts and acting as roles, the students will remember the text easily, and it is easie

32、r for them to master the knowledge.4.3 establishing harmonious relationship teaching and learning are interrelated. so, to set up a good relationship between teachers and students is very important. teachers friendly appearance can encourage students studying enthusiasm. the teacher needs to spend m

33、uch time talking with their students and know about their interests, hobbies. besides, teachers should pay more attention to students mood, such as happiness, anger and sorrow. in general, teachers should take good care of students and express their kindness to them by words, looks, actions, so that

34、 the students will not feel nervous and tense in class. in english class, teachers express their feeling by words, by expressing what is friendly, encouraging, and trustful. so that students dare to answer the questions and do not worry about making mistakes. the students will answer the questions f

35、requently and loudly. that is to say, students mood plays an important role in class. setting up a good relationship between teachers and students is one of the best ways to arouse students interest in class. for example, if a students answer is wrong, his teacher should say take it easy”; “take you

36、r time”; “do not be afraid of making any mistakes”; “have another try. if the students answer is right, the teacher could say very good; well done! in order to maintain the enthusiasm of students to answer questions, usually, poor students answer simple question. thus, it could attract the students

37、attention and develop their studying interest in the english class. generally speaking, harmonious relationship between teachers and students is good for stimulating students interest in english class.4.4 using various and interesting activities. it is necessary to apply some interesting activities

38、with few challenges to attract students to arouse their curiosity in english learning. language learning is different from other subjects. language learning requires students to develop roundly in four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing by practicing and speaking more in class. stude

39、nts are willing to participate in english learning by combining english with some games and to realize that english learning can be interesting and fun with their involvement .games are welcomed in english teaching. as one researcher explains as follows: well-chosen games are important, which give s

40、tudents a rest and at the same time allow students to practice language. games are highly motivating because they are interesting and at the same time they are challenging. in addition, they apply language in real contexts. they cultivate the cooperation of the students. games such as chain- story t

41、elling, gap filling, in-role play and songs are practical and effective which are often used in english learning. some real situation discussion and creative activities such as create a dialogue are used in higher grade. various and interesting activities encourage students involve as much time as p

42、ossible. moreover, they can also as enhance students learning motivation.4.5 providing opportunities to experience successmost students would not be active to use english when they experiences failure in english learning. so if the teachers want students to practice english, have fun with english, they should try to let the students to experience success in english learning. by this way teachers can keep student
